Braces are fixed appliances. Small metal or ceramic brackets are bonded to your teeth and joined by a wire that gently moves them into place. They are used for crooked or crowded teeth, gaps, and bite problems such as an overbite, underbite or crossbite.
- Planning: an intraoral scanner and X-rays map your bite, so there are no messy impression pastes.
- Visits: after the brackets go on, you come back every 4 to 6 weeks for adjustments.
- Comfort: expect some soreness for 3 to 5 days after fitting and after each adjustment.
- Duration: a full course usually runs 18 to 24 months, and minor corrections can take as little as 6 months.
Teenagers often start with classic metal brackets, while adults can choose discreet ceramic ones. Children are best seen for a first check by age 7. We stay open in the evenings, so adjustment visits can fit around school or work, and missing them or breaking brackets on hard food can slow your progress. EMI is available for braces.
